Backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo<\/a> didn’t see the field for the Rams this season, apart from a few kneel-downs. However, his veteran presence was valuable during an injury-riddled training camp for starter Matthew Stafford.<\/p>\n

While Stafford dealt with a back injury that kept him from participating in team activities during training camp, Garoppolo took first-team reps. Players and coaches were very complimentary of his play and leadership ability while Stafford worked his way back to full health.<\/p>\n

Fortunately for the Rams, Stafford didn’t miss a single game during his MVP campaign. Garoppolo’s second season in horns featured just nine kneel-downs across three games played, and he didn’t attempt a single pass.<\/p>\n

Now, he’s a pending unrestricted free agent with his contract scheduled to expire at the start of the new league year on March 11.<\/p>\n

Over the past two seasons, Garoppolo has started just once, an inconsequential Week 18 game in 2024. After signing a one-year extension with the Rams last offseason, Garoppolo explained why the Rams were a good fit for him, even though he wouldn’t start.<\/p>\n

“I love the people here and love my teammates,” he said. “I’m at that point in my career (where) those are the little things that make a difference to me.<\/p>\n

“I had to explore (starting opportunities). I like to go through the process and see what else is out there. There were a couple of opportunities. I just thought the best situation for me, being where I’m at with my career and everything, I thought this was the place to be. I love the people. I keep saying that, but the people go a long way from me.”<\/p>\n

Many of those people that Garoppolo loves working with are still prominent in the Rams’ organization. He will potentially have the opportunity to go through the free agency process once again this offseason, and his decision will likely be similar to the one he faced a year ago.
