She came to ESPN after working as a writer and editor for Sports Illustrated.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple Authors<\/p>\n<p>LOS ANGELES &#8212; Since trading cornerback <a data-player-guid=\"a5623fce-1fb1-d273-2b6e-61ac583303c3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3045373\/jalen-ramsey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jalen Ramsey<\/a> in March 2023, the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2e1473b2-e269-fd7a-1137-c1edacb85986\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/lar\/los-angeles-rams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> have not invested heavily in the position.<\/p>\n<p>But the Rams are facing a pivotal offseason at corner, with four free agents at the position and decisions likely coming on two others.<\/p>\n<p>General manager Les Snead has made it clear that the Rams want to make the most of however long veteran quarterback <a data-player-guid=\"20c41c33-a33f-6dc2-7e1f-0771e39ce49a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/12483\/matthew-stafford\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Stafford<\/a> plays, and this is a group the general manager said in early February that the team will &#8220;attack over the next few weeks and few months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that&#8217;s a group because of the contracts expiring even &#8230; again, how many years they&#8217;ve been in the league is definitely something we have to sit down and maybe stabilize it more from a standpoint of getting the right people in under the right contracts and things like that based on how many guys are up or voiding and things like that,&#8221; Snead said.<\/p>\n<p>As the Rams approach the start of the new league year, here&#8217;s a look at how the Rams could address the position:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/_end_rule.png\" width=\"100%\"\/>CURRENT<\/p>\n<p>Entering the 2026 season, the Rams have cornerbacks <a data-player-guid=\"63970a98-410c-32d8-90a3-46be6a015033\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4429767\/emmanuel-forbes-jr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emmanuel Forbes Jr<\/a>., <a data-player-guid=\"94067207-cfae-159a-0012-d82d8f7b8651\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4239833\/darious-williams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Darious Williams<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"649688cc-a95c-81c2-ed46-55e444f589ac\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4572371\/josh-wallace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Wallace<\/a> on their roster. This offseason, the Rams will have to decide whether to pick up Forbes&#8217; fifth-year option. Los Angeles claimed Forbes, a 2023 first-round pick, off waivers from the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"fbeaf73e-6d6c-cca4-0809-713d9d741f90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/wsh\/washington-commanders\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Commanders<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes played a career-high 17 regular-season games for Los Angeles in 2025, finishing with three interceptions, a forced fumble and 45 tackles (32 solo).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We felt based on how we viewed him coming out, that it would be a nice experiment to bring in,&#8221; Snead said. &#8220;Similar to all the players we do. A lot of times when they first get here, I call it the first day of school. They don&#8217;t know anyone. They&#8217;re not really sure of the system. We put them in. They dive in. If they care, they evolve.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s definitely someone who&#8217;s shown the willingness to learn our system and to try to execute it to the best of his ability on game days.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Williams has one season left on the three-year, $22.5 million contract he signed in 2024, but has a cap hit of $8.66 million and no guaranteed salary remaining on the deal.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams have four cornerbacks scheduled to hit free agency: <a data-player-guid=\"72d6ef73-c689-2b53-d898-fe42c0ed8ceb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3122630\/ahkello-witherspoon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ahkello Witherspoon<\/a>, <a data-player-guid=\"1d87efb4-eb10-5946-e8ad-06a8d24e66e4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4384549\/cobie-durant\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cobie Durant<\/a>, <a data-player-guid=\"94aa18de-e04a-ae52-6e23-3f72ffce1141\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4371973\/roger-mccreary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roger McCreary<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"c51239ac-eb45-d131-2dd4-a5298155d1d7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4360307\/derion-kendrick\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Derion Kendrick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, there are a lot of discussions,&#8221; Rams coach Sean McVay said in early February. &#8220;I thought we had a rotation of guys, and I thought they did a really good job. Then there were some games that we had some tough things that occurred.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cobie had a bunch of ball production this year. I think there were certain games that you really saw what Emmanuel Forbes can hope to be on a consistent basis. Darious has played really good quality football for us for years and he&#8217;s an experienced vet. Then Ahkello has done really good stuff for us. He just wasn&#8217;t able to ever really get where he&#8217;s able to play long enough and stay healthy. Those are your main four corners that you&#8217;re playing with on the outside. I thought Roger McCreary did some really good stuff when he got a chance in an opportunity to play later on in the season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles did re-sign <a data-player-guid=\"6d91ef30-3fd3-85a7-7cb4-bfe18e411cf9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4249128\/quentin-lake\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Quentin Lake<\/a> last offseason, and although he is listed as a safety, he plays the star position for the Rams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Obviously, with just the contract situation in general of a lot of those guys, that&#8217;s a spot that we will definitely look closely into and figure out how we consistently figure what&#8217;s the best things for our football team,&#8221; McVay said. &#8220;There was a lot of good stuff that they did and then a lot of things that we can all collectively improve upon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DRAFT<\/p>\n<p>The Rams have two first-round picks in the 2026 draft after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47435325\/los-angeles-rams-atlanta-falcons-2025-nfl-draft-trade-secure-future-la\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trading with<\/a> the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"49fd392a-86fe-4df3-1b77-9bbfa18b2ad5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/atl\/atlanta-falcons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atlanta Falcons<\/a> in 2025 to acquire their 2026 first (No. 13). Los Angeles also has the No. 29 pick.<\/p>\n<p>If the Rams do use one or both of those first-round selections on a cornerback, it will be new territory for Snead and McVay. Los Angeles has not used a first-round pick on a defensive back since 2006, a streak that is eight years longer than any other team in the NFL, according to ESPN&#8217;s Field Yates.<\/p>\n<p>In recent mock drafts for ESPN, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/draft2026\/story\/_\/id\/47840791\/2026-nfl-mock-draft-field-yates-first-round-predictions-32-picks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yates had<\/a> the Rams double-dipping at the position, taking Tennessee cornerback <a data-player-guid=\"bdb7fee9-c6ad-3975-8252-21a396d6b154\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/player\/_\/id\/5157289\/jermod-mccoy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jermod McCoy<\/a> at 13 and teammate <a data-player-guid=\"552c1be9-b864-3522-be90-7312f30e7a85\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/player\/_\/id\/4921249\/colton-hood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Colton Hood<\/a> at No. 29.<\/p>\n<p>In his February mock draft, ESPN&#8217;s Matt Miller had the Rams taking Hood at No. 13.<\/p>\n<p>SIGN<\/p>\n<p>The Rams entered mid-February with nearly $45 million in cap space in 2026, according to OverTheCap.com. While Los Angeles has several players eligible for contract extensions from the 2023 draft class &#8212; including wide receiver <a data-player-guid=\"05861488-1bb7-7c32-83eb-d0658a6e2b89\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4426515\/puka-nacua\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Puka Nacua<\/a>, outside linebacker <a data-player-guid=\"fd162be3-2e8e-e58c-89c6-190d6eccaaa5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4875196\/byron-young\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Byron Young<\/a>, defensive tackle <a data-player-guid=\"2770a0be-04c6-e6e9-d4e2-dd16c1915c36\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4250621\/kobie-turner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kobie Turner<\/a> and guard <a data-player-guid=\"b5685071-1044-33e8-590a-7cafc1f5463f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4362474\/steve-avila\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Avila<\/a> &#8212; the Rams have managed their salary cap in a way that would allow them to be active in free agency.<\/p>\n<p>Among ESPN&#8217;s Matt Bowen&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47734163\/2026-nfl-free-agency-top-50-ranking-hendrickson-pickens-hall-willis#db\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">top 50 pending free agents<\/a>, there are several cornerbacks, including <a data-player-guid=\"830aee6b-938d-760f-4d1c-a57b59865e55\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4369835\/alontae-taylor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alontae Taylor<\/a> (No. 12), <a data-player-guid=\"971781c0-ff15-2527-6985-99d8dcc5cd5a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4245185\/riq-woolen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Riq Woolen<\/a> (No. 14) and <a data-player-guid=\"2342d713-812b-3232-baed-89d44fad1367\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4697639\/jaylen-watson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaylen Watson<\/a> (No.16).<\/p>\n<p>While the Rams will have the cap space to make a move in free agency, it is not a position they have been known to address with an aggressive signing.<\/p>\n<p>TRADE<\/p>\n<p>The Rams could also address the position using their draft capital, something Snead and McVay have not shied away from in the past. In February 2018, the Rams acquired cornerback <a data-player-guid=\"48a6516d-a31d-cec1-2773-9ffa92432b2d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/2578378\/marcus-peters\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marcus Peters<\/a> for a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 second-round selection. He spent 22 regular-season games in Los Angeles before the Rams traded him to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"38248455-3da4-84e4-8090-98b5cc38ffdc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/bal\/baltimore-ravens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baltimore Ravens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That day, the Rams sent two first-round picks to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ca6fb778-cbf6-d9a3-3e93-01230335fcab\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/jax\/jacksonville-jaguars\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> for Ramsey.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the week, ESPN&#8217;s Bill Barnwell put together <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47937538\/2026-nfl-offseason-trade-proposals-offers-fits-deals-free-agency-barnwell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11 trade proposals<\/a> that might make sense for both sides, including the Rams trading a 2026 first-round pick to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f68f2343-8ceb-7a02-740d-af6338be21d2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/kc\/kansas-city-chiefs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> for cornerback <a data-player-guid=\"10d8ec6d-33ff-13b8-d189-180c3462083e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4426405\/trent-mcduffie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trent McDuffie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McDuffie, a 2022 first-round pick, is entering the final season of his rookie deal (he is set to play on his $13.6 million fifth-year option in 2026).<\/p>\n<p>If the Rams do trade for a veteran difference-maker at the position, it will likely be a player on an expiring contract.
