The NFL combine <\/a>begins soon, running from Feb. 23 to March 2. To preview this important pre-draft event, we will be taking a position-by-position look at which prospects were invited and the level of need that the Indianapolis Colts<\/a> have at each spot.<\/p>\n

The NFL combine is held at Lucas Oil Stadium and is an opportunity for the top NFL draft prospects in this year\u2019s class to go through measurements and various on-field drills, some of which are specific to their position group, and others measure the player\u2019s overall athleticism.<\/p>\n

For NFL teams, this event is another data point for them as they build out their draft profiles and big boards. However, it\u2019s a significant data point, with players potentially flying up and down draft boards depending on how they perform.<\/p>\n

In addition to the on-field drills, teams also get the opportunity to meet with players one-on-one as well, which is another important part of the evaluation process as they get to know them both on and off the field.<\/p>\n

Up first in our preview are the quarterbacks.<\/p>\n

Colts<\/a>‘ quarterbacks under contract before free agencyWhat is the level of need this offseason?<\/p>\n

On paper, it’s fairly high. However, it seems quite clear that the plan is to re-sign<\/a> Daniel Jones, who is set to be a free agent.<\/p>\n

The two sides, however, will have to work through what\u00a0Jones’ next deal<\/a>\u00a0is going to look like, with him\u00a0coming off a major injury.<\/a> Jones is a candidate to be franchise tagged<\/a> in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Beyond that, the other question here is\u00a0what is next for Richardson, who is a trade candidate.<\/a> There really isn’t a path forward for him with the Colts when it comes to regaining the starting role, and Leonard showcased against Houston that he could be a capable backup option.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the Colts take a swing and make a late-round pick on a quarterback or sign a UDFA, but a quarterback room made up of Jones, Leonard, and a developmental player is a good one.<\/p>\n
