{"id":760849,"date":"2026-02-18T18:55:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:55:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/760849\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T18:55:24","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:55:24","slug":"dolphins-should-re-sign-aaron-brewer-jordyn-brooks-perkins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/760849\/","title":{"rendered":"Dolphins should re-sign Aaron Brewer, Jordyn Brooks |Perkins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MIAMI GARDENS \u2014 When the Dolphins were battling culture problems in 2024, and when they were struggling to find leadership and high-quality play in 2025, two players rose to meet the challenge \u2014 center Aaron Brewer and linebacker Jordyn Brooks.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolphins should extend both of their contracts as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>They are both in the final year of their contracts and are necessary personnel for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/02\/16\/dolphins-time-with-tyreek-hill-is-over-miami-cuts-prolific-troubled-receiver\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dolphins\u2019 rebuild<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s understood that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/02\/17\/chris-perkins-dolphins-under-sullivan-and-hafley-inching-closer-to-winning-formula\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and coach Jeff Hafley<\/a> have more pressing matters (quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, managing the salary cap, free agency and the draft, among others).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Brooks, the six-year veteran and 2025 first-team All Pro, and Brewer, the six-year veteran and 2025 second-team All Pro, are prototypes for what the Dolphins need.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, allow me to qualify the statement about extending their contracts.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolphins need to extend both of their contracts, if that\u2019s what Brewer and Brooks desire.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolphins are clearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/02\/16\/dave-hyde-releasing-hill-chubb-was-predictable-now-new-dolphins-decisions-get-tougher\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">undergoing a rebuild<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2025\/05\/19\/chris-perkins-dolphins-headed-for-mediocrity-in-2025-before-2026-rebuild\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">We knew nine months ago<\/a> that 2026 would be a rebuilding year.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes veterans don\u2019t want to be part of a rebuild.<\/p>\n<p>And the rebuilding Dolphins might offer less-than-ideal contracts to the pair of 28-year-old veterans.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it\u2019d be multi-year financial security, and that\u2019s something every 28-year-old, six-year veteran desires.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, they fit the mold of what Sullivan and Hafley are seeking.<\/p>\n<p>Go beyond the numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, Brooks led the league in tackles last season with 183.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yes, Brewer played all 1,138 offensive snaps in 2024, and played 916 snaps in 16 games in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>This is about character and tone-setting.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve referenced the Dolphins\u2019 lack of toughness and aggression several times during the last few years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2024\/03\/20\/chris-perkins-meet-your-new-dolphins-thankfully-theyre-tough-aggressive-and-physical\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooks and Brewer emerged as part of the solution<\/a>\u00a0soon after they joined the Dolphins in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>They bring an attitude, intensity and high-quality play. They also exemplify being tough in the trenches.<\/p>\n<p>Almost as important as anything else, Brooks and Brewer are genuine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2024\/09\/26\/chris-perkins-meet-jordyn-brooks-hes-a-christian-and-dolphins-linebacker-in-that-order\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">I wrote about Brooks\u2019 faith<\/a> two years ago because it\u2019s genuine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brooks, perhaps the most aggressive player on the team, speaks his mind on topics such as the Dolphins playing soft against Green Bay or wide receiver Tyreek Hill not owing the team an apology after his infamous \u201cI\u2019m out\u201d rant following the 2024 season finale.<\/p>\n<p>I asked four other players whether they thought the Dolphins played soft against Green Bay and they said no.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Tua was among the numerous Dolphins players who said Tyreek owed the team an apology.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks doesn\u2019t follow the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to Brewer, I liked him on the introductory Zoom session with the media in 2024 when he was asked to describe his game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m headhunting out there,\u201d he said, \u201cso if I can get my hands on you, I\u2019m on you until I hear the whistle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brewer, who rivals Brooks for the title of most aggressive player on the team, has lived up to that statement.<\/p>\n<p>You routinely see his mauling style yards beyond the line of scrimmage. You see the agility, the athleticism.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks and Brewer are also among the most intelligent and honest players on the team.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks and Brewer are two of the players I go to when I want to know what\u2019s going on with the team. There are others like Alec Ingold, Zach Sieler, Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson.
