Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Nate Washington<\/a> revealed on the Bullseye View<\/a> podcast that he was recently part of a Zoom call with Mike Tomlin<\/a> and over 70 people, where they thanked the former coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe literally just had a Zoom call with Mike T. with over 70 people \u2026 just to say thank you to Mike T, all individually,\u201d Washington said. \u201cWe stayed on that phone for two hours, almost. That\u2019s what type of, not only culture, the Steelers have, but the man Mike T. was. He touched a lot of lives. Not just young guys, but older guys as well. He\u2019s a very inspirational person. Very motivational.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington played under Bill Cowher<\/a> and Tomlin during his tenure with the Steelers. He explained some of the differences between the two. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Coach Cowher was there \u2014 it was really only like three, four guys who spoke to Coach Cowher. I\u2019m not saying he was one of those \u2018high in the ivory tower while we\u2019re standing low\u2019 type of people, but that just was his aura,\u201d he said. \u201cYou don\u2019t just run up to Coach Cowher and start talking to him, having a conversation with him. \u2026 Having Coach Tomlin come in, and he\u2019s walking around station to station, drill to drill, twirling his whistle, walking up to you like, \u2018What\u2019s going on.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

During an appearance on The Jim Rome Show at Super Bowl radio row, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports provided some insight on Tomlin\u2018s future.<\/a> No one in the media has a closer relationship to Tomlin than Glazer.<\/p>\n

Glazer revealed that Tomlin is just enjoying time with his family after a 19-year run as the Steelers\u2019 head coach. He doesn\u2019t see Tomlin coaching anytime soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI talked to him (Tuesday). He is happy being a dad. And he wants to get himself healthy,\u201d Glazer said. \u201cNow let\u2019s see what happens in a year, two, three. Right now, his mindset, \u2018I\u2019m done.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Glazer added (during a visit to the \u201cNightcap\u201d podcast<\/a>) that Tomlin told him and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber two years ago that he\u2019d be done at the end of 2025 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s done,\u201d Glazer said about Tomlin\u2019s time as a coach. \u201cHe told me and Ronde Barber two years ago. He was like, \u2018Hey, this is my plan. You can\u2019t say this. Don\u2019t show my hand. I\u2019m telling you, you\u2019re my guy.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, I thought he was gonna hang it up. He decided one more. I thought he was gonna be done, so until it happens, it happens. But this year, kind of Week 8, I\u2019m like, \u2018Hey man anybody that\u2019s gonna change your mind?\u2019 \u2018Nope.\u2019 Okay, I said, \u2018Can I report it this week?\u2019 \u2018Nope.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in fairness, he said, \u2018I don\u2019t think it\u2019s fair if my players find out from you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

If he had to guess, Steelers All-Pro defensive tackle Cam Heyward<\/a> thinks Tomlin stepped down because he wants to spend more time with his family.<\/p>\n

\u201ci don\u2019t know. I\u2019ve asked that question a lot (to) him and he\u2019s been pretty straight forward. I think one, he wants to spend time with his family,\u201d Heyward said. \u201cI was just talking to him today about his daughter Harly, who\u2019s killing it at UGA right now (on the women\u2019s gymnastics team). You don\u2019t know how much you\u2019ve been away until you come back into the picture. That is big. Nineteen years with one team is not like an abrupt thing. But, not a lot of people can say they\u2019ve had that kind of stability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heyward is unsure if Tomlin is done for good as a coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cSelfishly, I would be like he\u2019s probably coached his last game because I would be like, \u2018Damn, I want to keep playing for that head coach,\u2019\u201d Heyward said. \u201cYou look at that glow he\u2019s got in the offseason just supporting his family, that\u2019s hard to pass up. And true happiness, I don\u2019t think he has to go looking for a job. I think he\u2019s set, but you never know, that hunger he has for the game is very apparent and you know how much he cares about his players, coaches and what he wants to do out on that field.\u201d<\/p>\n
