The Los Angeles<\/a> Chargers are reportedly planning to cut Super Bowl<\/a> winner Mekhi Becton from their roster.<\/p>\n

According to NFL insider Evan Sidery<\/a>, the move is expected to clear just under $10 million in salary cap space for head coach Jim Harbaugh to use this offseason.<\/p>\n

Becton only arrived in Los Angeles 12 months ago after winning the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>\u00a0in New Orleans<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old signed a two-year, $20 m contract with the Chargers and started 15 games for them on the offensive line in front of Justin Herbert.<\/p>\n

It turned out to be a disappointing season for the Chargers, who went 11-7 in the regular season but were comfortably beaten by the New England Patriots<\/a> in the wildcard round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

The offensive line crumbled against Mike Vrabel’s Patriots defense, with quarterback Justin Herbert getting sacked six times.<\/p>\n

The Chargers finished second in the AFC West and made the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since a four-year run from 2006 to 2009.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the amount of damage the offensive line allowed Herbert to take was a huge issue. He got\u00a0hit an NFL-leading 129 times in the regular season and another 11 times against the Patriots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The offensive line was hit hard by injuries, including the losses of starting tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater.<\/p>\n

That led to nine different O-line combinations playing at least 50 snaps together.\u00a0Becton, a guard, also struggled with injuries and inconsistent play.<\/p>\n

Becton was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft by the New York Jets. He spent four seasons there before signing with the Eagles in 2024.<\/p>\n
