The Cleveland Browns<\/a> have a big decision to make as the 2026 NFL<\/a> offseason gets underway. Will they keep Shedeur Sanders as their starting quarterback or look to bring in another option?<\/p>\n

Some have speculated that the Browns could use one of their first-round picks on a quarterback. Others have expected that the team could sign a free agent signal caller like Malik Willis. There have also been rumblings about trading for a quarterback.<\/p>\n

After drafting Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Cleveland ended up turning to him as the starter in the middle of the year. He played decently, although there are still a lot of questions about his ability to be a starting NFL quarterback.<\/p>\n

Sanders was able to earn a Pro Bowl nod at the end of the season. Due to other players who were either injured or dropped out, the rookie earned notable recognition.<\/p>\n

Throughout the course of his rookie season, Sanders played in eight games. He completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while also running for 169 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n

With the offseason getting underway, one Browns insider has dropped a hint about Sanders’ future with the team.<\/p>\n

ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi<\/a> revealed that he does not believe Cleveland will be drafting a quarterback early in the 2026 NFL Draft. That would leave either a free agency signing or a trade to compete with Sanders.<\/p>\n

Should the Browns pass on a rookie quarterback, Sanders’ chances of remaining the starter in 2026 would take a sharp rise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t see them drafting [a QB] early. By that, I mean first and second day. Will they draft one after that? Possibly, why not? Much later,” Grossi said. “[One] who wouldn\u2019t consider him a threat to be a starting quarterback as a rookie. I can see them adding a guy, but you need a fourth quarterback in training camp. It could be middle or late rounds.”<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see what Cleveland chooses to do this offseason. Sanders did show some flashes of talent and potential throughout the 2025 season. Perhaps he’ll get another chance in 2026.<\/p>\n
