{"id":764721,"date":"2026-02-20T14:36:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T14:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/764721\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T14:36:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T14:36:26","slug":"ravens-urged-for-change-of-scenery-for-wr-rashod-bateman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/764721\/","title":{"rendered":"Ravens Urged for &#8216;Change of Scenery&#8217; for WR Rashod Bateman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/GettyImages-1674039326-e1771597201419.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Rashod Bateman\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman. <\/p>\n<p>If you want an indication exactly how bad things went for <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Baltimore Ravens\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/baltimore-ravens\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"170121\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baltimore Ravens<\/a> wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/rashod-bateman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rashod Bateman<\/a> in 2025, take into account that, by all indications, there were exactly ZERO feelers for Bateman at the 2025 <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" title=\"NFL\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"170122\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s despite every team in the NFL understanding the Ravens would have never been more likely to unload Bateman, who signed a 3-year, $36.75 million contract before the season and responded with 19 receptions for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns in 13 games.<\/p>\n<p>In any universe, that math just doesn\u2019t add up \u2014 and was a large factor in why the Ravens struggled to finish 8-9 overall and missed the playoffs. Not to mention Super Bowl-winning head coach John Harbaugh wound up fired after 18 seasons.<\/p>\n<p>With a new head coach in Baltimore in former assistant Jesse Minter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47955391\/nfl-2026-offseason-draft-trade-free-agency-change-scenery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">ESPN\u2019s Aaron Schatz<\/a> put Bateman at the top of his list of NFL players who need a \u201cChange of Scenery\u201d in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that Bateman needs a change of scenery might be unexpected considering the Ravens signed him to a three-year, $36.75 million extension before the 2025 season,\u201d Schatz wrote on Thursday. \u201cBut he had a very disappointing campaign, with just 19 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns. A part of his problem last season was that opponents treated Bateman as the Ravens\u2019 WR1 because\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/zay-flowers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zay Flowers <\/a>was in the slot being covered by a nickelback. Bateman just isn\u2019t good enough to get away from that coverage, and he might flourish with a new team for whom he can be more of a complementary player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bateman\u2019s Name Popped Up in Trade Rumors<\/p>\n<p>Bateman\u2019s name was <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/baltimore-ravens\/trade-wide-receiver-rashod-bateman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">popular in NFL trade rumors<\/a> ahead of the November trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>At one point,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/one-trade-each-contender-should-make-trey-hendrickson-to-nfc-alvin-kamara-to-los-angeles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/one-trade-each-contender-should-make-trey-hendrickson-to-nfc-alvin-kamara-to-los-angeles\/\">CBS Sports NFL reporter Garrett Podell<\/a> had Bateman as a good\u00a0fit for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/los-angeles-rams\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/los-angeles-rams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">\u201cWith Pro Bowl wide receiver\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/puka-nacua\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/puka-nacua\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Puka Nacua<\/a>\u00a0suffering an\u00a0ankle injury\u00a0in a\u00a0Week 6 win\u00a0against the Baltimore Ravens, it would be wise for Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead to bolster quarterback\u00a0Matthew Stafford\u2019s receiving core,\u201d Podell wrote. \u201cWide receiver Rashod Bateman (11 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in six games this season) has become a forgotten man in the 1-5 Baltimore Ravens\u2019 offense, especially with Jackson sidelined. Snead should give the Ravens a call to see if they would be willing to exchange Bateman for a pick or two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bateman\u2019s Struggles Reflected His Team<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">While there isn\u2019t really anyone on Baltimore\u2019s offense who can say they had a great year, Bateman\u2019s year was especially difficult.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">Selected at No. 21 overall in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/years\/2021\/draft.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/years\/2021\/draft.htm\">2021 NFL draft<\/a>\u00a0by the Ravens, Bateman missed 16 games due to injuries over his first 2 seasons. He had a mini-breakout season in 2024 with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/rashod-bateman\/#career-stats\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/rashod-bateman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">45 receptions for 756 yards and 9 touchdowns<\/a>\u00a0while playing in every regular season game for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">Bateman\u2019s contract would probably is the biggest sticking point in any deal moving forward.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">The Ravens don\u2019t have a voidable year in Bateman\u2019s contract until 2028 and while he only counts $4.548 million against the salary cap in 2025, that number goes up to $6.298 million in 2026 and $10.9 million in 2027.<\/p>\n<p data-mrf-recirculation=\"Articles \/ Paragraph Links\">Paying that much money for a below average WR2 option just doesn\u2019t make sense \u2014 not for the Ravens or any other NFL team.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/tadame316\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Adame<\/a> covers the NFL for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos.
