\u201cDudes on Dudes\u201d podcast<\/a> with Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, Brown admitted that he disliked the coach at first and his notebook was tailored accordingly. <\/p>\n\u201cHe wants to make sure you\u2019re staying engaged and he\u2019s going to go over the keys to victory of the week,\u201d Brown explained. \u201cYou better know them by the back of your hand. I used to write in my notebook because at the time, I really didn\u2019t like Vrabes. I didn\u2019t like him, and I admit that he knows that. So, I used to write, \u2018I hate Vrabes, I hate Vrabes, I hate Vrabes.\u2019 <\/p>\n
\u201cI was doing that to pretend like I was taking notes to look like I was engaged. But because he was so hard on me when I was a rookie and I really didn\u2019t understand it. So, at the time I told Vrabes like, \u2018Hey, like I\u2019m humble already. You don\u2019t got to humble me.\u2019 But I really didn\u2019t understand what he was trying to, you know, push me to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
That didn\u2019t stop Vrabel from trying to develop Brown, who has since grown into a three-time All-Pro with the Eagles. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnother little quick thing, he showed a clip and I ran like a bang-8 (route), and I scored and he praised me,\u201d Brown said. \u201cSo, I was kind of feeling good about myself, right? I\u2019m a rookie and a couple of plays later, he showed me another play with the bang-8, and I get tackled. He was like, \u2018What\u2019s the difference between the first play and the second play?\u2019 And he was like, \u2018You\u2019re tired.\u2019 He was like, \u2018That\u2019s not going to cut it.\u2019 He like, \u2018That same mentality that you showed on the first play, you should do that all the time. That\u2019s who you are. Like this right here, that\u2019s not going to cut it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Eventually Brown got the message. Vrabel\u2019s teams have excelled because the sum is greater than the parts, and Brown was still a very productive part during their three seasons together. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I say he holds every single player accountable from top to bottom, I don\u2019t care who it is, like that\u2019s who he is,\u201d Brown said. \u201cAnd it makes the team come together because nobody is bigger than the team.
