His 47.4% success rate on rush attempts ranked sixth-best among all RBs (min. 100 carries),” Patra writes for NFL.com. “Gainwell proved his prowess as a receiving back in his first year with the Steelers, generating 486 yards — fifth-most among backs, behind only Christian McCaffrey, Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs and De’Von Achane — with three scores on 73 catches. That dual-threat ability is extremely valuable.

“However, Gainwell could be overlooked on the open market. The reality that clubs don’t generally want to spend on the RB position and the deep pool of backs ticketed for free agency means Gainwell could get lost in the shuffle.”

Along with Gainwell hitting the open market, others running backs like Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker, Breece Hall, Rachaad White, Javonte Williams and Travis Etienne — among others — are set to cash in (sort of).

Walker should receive the biggest payday in free agency thanks to his performance in the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Hall is maybe the best back of the group, one who is looking to escape New York after a tough 2025 season.

So, Gainwell will have his work cut out for him on the open market. Bringing that dual-threat ability as a runner and receiver will be huge. Former Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers stated during the 2025 season that his goal was to get Gainwell paid, and based on his production, the fifth-year veteran is poised to land a nice haul in free agency.

Pro Football Focus projects Gainwell landing a two-year, $8 million deal with $4 million guaranteed. After rushing for 537 yards and five touchdowns and adding 73 receptions for 486 yards and three touchdowns, that projected PFF contract seems very reasonable.

Fresh off a team MVP season in which he led the Pittsburgh Steelers in receptions and became one…

[2055
7,14451,7776,6,6312,520,57,2360,426,691
0":"post-765020","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pittsburgh-steelers","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-kenneth-gainwell","10":"tag-kevin-patra","11":"tag-nfl","12":"tag-nfl-com","13":"tag-pittsburgh","14":"tag-pittsburgh-steelers","15":"tag-pittsburghsteelers","16":"tag-steelers","17":"tag-trending
["GET
