The Dallas Cowboys<\/a> were monster movers at the 2025 mid-season trade deadline, but one of the players they acquired to improve a lackluster defense is already on his way out of Texas.<\/p>\n

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Friday, February 20 that the Cowboys have cut ties with linebacker Logan Wilson in a salary-cap saving move ahead of the start of free agency on March 11. <\/p>\n

“Cowboys are releasing LB Logan Wilson,” Schefter wrote in a post on Instagram<\/a>. “Cowboys acquired Wilson from the Bengals at the trade deadline last year in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick. The Cowboys saved $6.5 million<\/a> against the cap by releasing Wilson.”<\/p>\n

\"Logan<\/p>\n

Wilson, who will play next season at 30 years old, is a six-year NFL<\/a> veteran who has appeared in 83 total games and recorded 66 starts. He started seven of eight contests in Cincinnati last season before coming to Dallas, where he appeared in seven games but logged just one start. <\/p>\n

In 2025, Wilson tallied 70 combined tackles<\/a>, five pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He is now an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team in the league next month. <\/p>\n

Dallas remains nearly $30.2 million<\/a> in the red with regards to the 2026 salary cap, which means the franchise will need to clear at least that much space through player cuts and\/or contract restructures inside of the next three weeks. <\/p>\n

The Cowboys will likely have to do much more financial maneuvering that just what it will take to get under the cap, as the team has aspirations of improving a defense that finished last season as the 30th-ranked unit<\/a> in the NFL. <\/p>\n
