The Atlanta Falcons<\/a> waived quarterback Emory Jones on Wednesday, ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported. Jones, a former undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati, landed with the Falcons late in the 2024 season. He was signed to help the team prepare for its Week 17 matchup against Washington Commanders<\/a> quarterback Jayden Daniels.<\/p>\n

Jones remained on the practice squad and returned to the team in 2025. In Week 1 of the preseason, Jones completed 4-of-5 passes for 49 yards and rushed for nine more yards on the ground against the Detroit Lions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The dual-threat QB was injured on a fourth-down rushing attempt in the second week of the preseason against the Tennessee Titans<\/a>. While Jones never returned from the injury, he was stashed away on the team’s injured reserve list for the rest of the 2025 NFL season.<\/p>\n

The Falcons are going in a different direction under head coach Kevin Stefanski, and apparently Jones is not a part of those plans. At just 25 years old, though, the LaGrange, Georgia native will likely land on his feet with another team once training camp starts in a few months.<\/p>\n

NFL free agency officially starts on March 11, with the legal tampering period beginning two days earlier on March 9. The Falcons have around $25 million in salary cap space, but they must make a key decision on tight end Kyle Pitts.<\/p>\n
