The Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> are closing in on finalizing their coaching staff for the 2026-27 campaign. On Saturday, the franchise was able retain one of its key defensive coaches on the staff, despite multiple other teams requesting interviews.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that Matt House, who is 47 years old, is returning to the Chiefs for next season as the outside linebackers coach<\/a>, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. It\u2019s said that Kansas City blocked several other organizations from interviewing House, as Andy Reid<\/a> wanted House to remain on his staff.<\/p>\n

\u201cMatt House will be the Chiefs\u2019 outside linebackers coach, per source. The veteran NFL coach and former coordinator was blocked from multiple interview requests this cycle as the Chiefs wanted him to remain in Kansas City as a key part of their staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

House initially signed with the Chiefs in 2025 as a defensive assistant. So, his role as the outside linebackers coach is likely a promotion. He is incredibly experienced, as he has been coaching since 2001. Matt House has also been a defensive coordinator at the college level for the Pittsburgh Panthers, FIU Panthers, Kentucky Wildcats, and LSU Tigers football programs.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs finished last season with the No. 10-ranked defense in yards allowed. Despite that, Kansas City struggled throughout most of the 2025-26 season, finishing with a 6-11 record and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.<\/p>\n
