Now, the rising signal-caller carries that winning spirit into 2026, looking to build on an 11-6 campaign that delivered Chicago’s first NFC North title since 2018.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) looks on during warmups before an NFC Divisional Round game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Chicago Bears star Caleb Williams shares Team USA men’s hockey team’s historic gold medal triumph

Hughes was immediately swarmed by his teammates after the massive overtime goal, a celebration 46 years in the making. That iconic moment will live forever in USA Hockey history.

The Americans captured it all in a triumphant Instagram post, sharing the glory with the world.

For Williams, that kind of clutch gene is a familiar feeling. The former Heisman Trophy winner has delivered plenty of his own unforgettable moments in just two NFL seasons. Moved by the victory, Williams reposted the celebration on his Instagram story.

Team USA and Canada battled through three intense periods, tied at 1-1. Then Hughes stepped up when it mattered most, ending it all with one decisive strike in overtime.

Williams knows that territory well. Throughout the 2025 campaign, the Bears’ leader repeatedly pulled Chicago out of massive holes under the guidance of head coach Ben Johnson.

That underdog spirit likely struck a deep chord with Williams. Not long ago, the Bears were basement dwellers in the NFC North, limping to a 5-12 finish in Williams’ rookie year. The parallels with Team USA’s long road back to glory are hard to ignore.

But just as the Americans turned the page, so did Williams and the Bears. Year two brought an 11-6 record, an NFC North title and a new sense of belief in Chicago.

Chicago Bears could lose critical defender over a measly $2.3 million
Read More

For More Great Chicago Sports Content

Get the latest Chicago sports news, analysis, and breaking stories on the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs, White Sox, Sky, and more!
