How the ACC works.
And how big-time football money flows.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Nick Carparelli\u2019s name isn\u2019t just floating around \u2014 it\u2019s gaining traction.<\/p>\n

Carparelli isn\u2019t some outsider r\u00e9sum\u00e9-drop. He has Syracuse DNA.<\/p>\n

From 1992\u201394, he was a graduate assistant coach with Syracuse football. He earned his MBA on The Hill in 1994. He also has Syracuse football swag all around his office (as seen in this pic). He understands the campus, the Dome, the winters, the expectations. That matters. This isn\u2019t a place you fully \u201cget\u201d from afar.<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s where it gets interesting.<\/p>\n

Carparelli now serves as Executive Director of the Coca-Cola Bowl Season, overseeing operations and direction for 41 bowl games this past season \u2014 including the 12-team College Football Playoff. That\u2019s not ceremonial work. That\u2019s navigating television partners, corporate sponsors, playoff logistics, and the power brokers who actually steer the sport.<\/p>\n

Before that? Nearly 30 years building a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 that reads like a college athletics power map: roles with the New England Patriots, Notre Dame, the Big East Conference, Under Armour, and senior leadership work within the Atlantic Coast Conference ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Translation: he understands both sides of the modern equation \u2014 tradition and revenue.<\/p>\n

With John Wildhack stepping down, Syracuse doesn\u2019t just need someone to hire the next basketball coach<\/a>. It needs someone who can:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Navigate NIL realities
\u2022 Position football within a shifting ACC
\u2022 Protect Syracuse\u2019s standing amid realignment anxiety
\u2022 Restore brand relevance in two flagship sports<\/p>\n

Carparelli checks more of those boxes than fans might initially realize.<\/p>\n

He knows what high-level football infrastructure looks like. He\u2019s worked around NFL professionalism and Notre Dame scale. He\u2019s seen the Big East rise and fracture. He\u2019s helped operate postseason systems at the highest level of the sport.<\/p>\n

And unlike a pure conference bureaucrat, he\u2019s got Syracuse roots. He wouldn\u2019t be learning the culture on the fly.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been part of the ACC\u2019s event machine. The football title game. The basketball tournament. Major neutral-site showcases. Those aren\u2019t just games \u2014 they\u2019re branding exercises. Syracuse desperately needs someone who can restore brand relevance.<\/p>\n

Relationships matter more than ever. Conference politics are real. Grant of Rights debates are real. Revenue distribution conversations are real. Hiring someone already wired into league leadership gives Syracuse an immediate seat at the table instead of playing catch-up.<\/p>\n

This hire won\u2019t be about nostalgia. It can\u2019t be.<\/p>\n

But if Syracuse wants someone who understands both where it came from and where college athletics is headed \u2014 especially in football\u2019s playoff-driven economy \u2014 Nick Carparelli makes strategic sense.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not flashy.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s wired in.<\/p>\n

And in this moment, that might matter more than anything.<\/p>\n
