{"id":7718,"date":"2025-04-28T19:09:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T19:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/7718\/"},"modified":"2025-04-28T19:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T19:09:10","slug":"seattle-seahawks-udfa-rookie-signing-to-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/7718\/","title":{"rendered":"Seattle Seahawks&#8217; UDFA rookie signing to watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Seattle Seahawks made 11 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and there are a lot of names worth watching from the class.<\/p>\n<p>But the interesting rookies added by the Seahawks over the weekend aren\u2019t limited to those they drafted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.mynorthwest.com\/brock-and-salk\/brock-why-seattle-seahawks-had-one-of-the-best-drafts\/1808748\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Brock: Why Seattle Seahawks had \u2018one of the best\u2019 drafts<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the draft, NFL teams then go to work signing undrafted rookies and inviting them to their rookie minicamps. And while it\u2019s not something you can expect, sometimes those players prove to be valuable.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, the Seahawks alone have received notable contributions from undrafted wide receivers Jermaine Kearse and Jake Bobo over the years, and multi-time Pro Bowlers Doug Baldwin and Michael Bennett both signed with Seattle after going undrafted.<\/p>\n<p>So who could be the Hawks\u2019 next undrafted standout? There\u2019s one name on the their UDFA list this year that jumps out to Seattle Sports\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BrockHuard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Brock Huard<\/a>, a longtime college football analyst and former NFL quarterback: UNLV linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/prospects\/jackson-woodard\/3200574f-4f20-2677-b10a-62d866c44ccd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jackson Woodard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.mynorthwest.com\/nfl\/seattle-seahawks\/seattle-seahawks-2025-udfa-tracker\/1808642\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">See the Seattle Seahawks\u2019 2025 UDFA additions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack-to-back years in the Mountain West championship game,\u201d Huard pointed out Monday on Brock and Salk about the UNLV Rebels. \u201cThey\u2019re not there without that guy in the middle of their defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Who else??<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd34MW Defensive Player of the Year<br \/>\ud83d\udd34MW First Team<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jackson_wood23?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">@jackson_wood23<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZE63LJwoEX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/ZE63LJwoEX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 UNLV Football (@unlvfootball) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/unlvfootball\/status\/1864062445569839362?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">December 3, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old Woodard was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2024, becoming the first UNLV player in 17 years to win the honor. He made 135 total tackles in 14 games, but what really stands out are his takeaways (four interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 2024) and ability to make plays against the pass (16 passes defensed).<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-2, 234-pound Woodard isn\u2019t blessed with elite speed, but Huard said he has something that\u2019s hard to teach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree years at Arkansas, originally a walk-on because he ran 4.7 (seconds in the 40-yard dash) so he doesn\u2019t blow you away in any traits like all these draft picks did. But just his nose for the ball and his instincts to be around the ball,\u201d Huard said. \u201cAnd he\u2019s all about ball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-perfmatters-preload=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1745867349_705_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"YouTube video\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\" nopin=\"nopin\"\/><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s something Huard learned about Woodard through his job calling games on FOX.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChatting with those UNLV coaches and it\u2019s like, yeah, this is why we\u2019re here. It\u2019s difference-makers like (Woodard) that elevate everybody around him,\u201d Huard said. \u201cHe\u2019s accountable, he\u2019s in guys\u2019 faces, he\u2019s physical.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 Those are the kind of guys you want on your roster, that just find a way. And then how is he making plays?
