One of the biggest “what ifs” for the Minnesota Vikings<\/a> in 2025 was the team’s decision to stick with J.J. McCarthy instead of bringing in someone like Aaron Rodgers.<\/p>\n

McCarthy ended up playing poorly during his first season as the team’s starter and he was easily the biggest reason why Minnesota missed the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Rodgers had a good but not great season in Pittsburgh that ended with the Steelers<\/a> being bounced in the playoffs in the wild-card round.<\/p>\n

Now, the two sides have another opportunity to join forces. Rodgers is a free agent and reports suggest McCarthy isn’t totally safe<\/a> and the team will, at the very least, bring in some veteran competition.<\/p>\n

So, could Rodgers be the veteran quarterback Minnesota lands on?<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Adam Schefter thinks it’s possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a free agent so he can go do what he wants. And last year I think he did want to play in Minnesota. So if he wanted to do that last year, I don\u2019t know why he wouldn\u2019t want to do it this year,\u201d Schefter said of Rodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issue last year was that the Vikings were very sensitive to bringing in somebody like Aaron Rodgers, who\u2019s such a force, such a dominant personality, and how that would hinder or affect the impact or the growth of J.J. McCarthy. So maybe they feel differently. It\u2019s a different set of dynamics\u2026I wouldn\u2019t rule it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the expectation is that it will be the Steelers or retirement for Rodgers, we certainly wouldn’t rule the Vikings out.<\/p>\n

Minnesota has a better overall roster than Pittsburgh, and that’s especially true on the offensive side of the ball, where the Vikings have better weapons at wide receiver thanks to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.<\/p>\n

We would suspect the Vikings are at least interested. After all, if Rodgers was able to win 10 games in Pittsburgh, he could win a lot more with the Vikings. At the very least, he should get Minnesota back to the playoffs.<\/p>\n

At this point, we would consider the Vikings the biggest threat to the Steelers for Rodgers.<\/p>\n
