GREEN BAY, Wis. \u2014 There are 38,000 season ticket holder accounts for the Green Bay Packers and more than 155,000 people on a waiting list for those coveted seats at Lambeau Field.<\/p>\n

For a few years, the team has been declining renewals to season ticket holders who are solely selling those tickets.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing a season ticket holder really means going to games. If you\u2019re going to games, you\u2019re going with your family, your friends, your co-workers, business associates,\u201d said Aaron Popkey, the Packers\u2019 director of public affairs. \u201cUsing the tickets the way they\u2019re intended.\u201d<\/p>\n
If the primary ticket holder can\u2019t attend a game, the team is continuing its policy of asking season ticket holders to funnel them to their family, friends and business associates in part to help keep their home-field advantage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we\u2019re saying is if you repeatedly sell those tickets in that way, or through a broker, either indirectly or directly, those are the situations that we are addressing through this non-renewal program,\u201d Popkey said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Travis Loftus is the manager of Ticket King, a little more than a block from Lambeau Field.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s basically been business as usual. We\u2019ve been in business for over 30-plus years and have a great working relationship with a lot of our season ticket holders,\u201d he said. \u201cThey can trust us with their tickets if they can\u2019t make it to a game. Say they fall sick, come upon a hardship of not having enough money to pay for their tickets, etc. Obviously, things come up in life. That\u2019s kind of what we\u2019re here for to help mitigate and move the tickets for them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The policy is something his customers ask about.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe get our general questions, \u2018Hey, can the Packers do this? Can they not?\u2019 Obviously, that\u2019s not a question I can answer,\u201d Loftus said. \u201cThat\u2019s up to the Packers for whatever letter of the law exactly what they have.\u201d<\/p>\n
The policy is being sent to season ticket holders next week with annual invoices. It applies to both the green and gold ticket packages.<\/p>\n
The team has a passionate fan base that would like to come off the waiting list.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the last few years, we have not renewed a few thousand tickets.
