The New York Jets made that abundantly clear Tuesday afternoon at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

Hall is coming off his most successful season as a former second-round running back with the Jets in 2022. He topped 1,000 yards rushing for the first time and was the lone consistent weapon in an otherwise lost season for New York.

As the 2026 offseason gets closer to kicking off, though, Hall’s future as a member of the Jets was in doubt. The Iowa State product was set to hit free agency this season by the start of March.

That was until Jets general manager Darren Mougey stepped up to the podium on Tuesday.

“The tags are an option. Ideally we fond a way to get a deal done.”

Mougey on Breece Hall. Breece is a good player, and we want to find a way to keep him around.”

New York will continue to negotiate a deal with Hall’s representation. They have until next Tuesday to decide whether to place a tag on him.

If Tuesday’s deadline inches closer without a set extension, the Jets will simply place either the franchise tag ($14 million) or transition tag ($11 million) on the star.

One of those three will happen.

Letting Hall walk in free agency will not be one of those things.

Does Hall want out?

Mougey’s comments were among the strongest from the executive about Hall’s future with the Jets. It highlights New York’s commitment to him and its willingness to spend money on the runner.

But a legitimate question has followed Hall over the last few years: Does he even want to be a Jet?

New York has not recorded a winning season since it was drafted in 2022. They also traded away two of their better players in the offseason. Hall may not want to be part of another Jets rebuild if it means wasting years of his prime as a top player in the league.

Hall didn’t exactly help those concerns when speaking with the New York Post last week.

“I’m just where my feet are, and letting God and my agent handle everything else,” Hall said. “I feel like my play speaks for itself, considering the situations I’ve been in the last few years. I’m going to get everything that’s coming to me, so I’m not too worried about it.”

Despite a clear push to be put in a better situation, Mougey believes his talks with Hall show the veteran wants to remain in Florham Park.

“I get the sense he wants to be here,” Mougey proclaimed while at the combine. “We’ve had good conversations throughout the season, after the season, so just finding a way to do that.”

Hall’s long-term future certainly remains in doubt. New York may not be willing to meet the running back’s contractual goals, but for the 2026 season, at least, his future isn’t a question.

Breece Hall isn’t going anywhere this offseason.

Reporting from the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Ind.

Running back Breece Hall isn’t going anywhere.
