On Tuesday, Browns general manager Andrew Berry did not commit to either Sanders or highly paid Deshaun Watson, who is returning from a serious injury.<\/p>\n

“We don’t have to make that decision anytime soon,” said the Browns GM at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I think any player that we have in that room we would expect to compete to earn a role. Those two would be no different.”<\/p>\n

Although Berry praised Sanders’ emergence as a starter and his growth as a player, his play to end the year wasn’t strong enough to confirm him as the starting signal-caller going into next season.<\/p>\n

It is going to be an important offseason for the Browns, who are ushering in a new era under new head coach Todd Monken.<\/p>\n

While they could use one of their two first-round draft picks in April’s draft to get another rookie QB, the room is already full of players who believe they have what it takes to be the man in Cleveland.<\/p>\n

In a shallow QB draft that doesn’t have a solid No. 2 prospect following Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to go first overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, it might behoove the Browns to wait until 2027 if they’re still searching for a franchise signal-caller.<\/p>\n

In 2027, it could be one of the best college QB classes of all-time, headlined by the likes of Arch Manning, Julian Sayin, Dante Moore, and LaNorris Sellers.<\/p>\n

If that’s the case, then Sanders could have one final season to prove himself to be the best man for the job in Cleveland. And if he can’t, then it might be time for Sanders to look at other options around the league if he wants to reach his full potential.<\/p>\n
