{"id":774986,"date":"2026-02-25T08:25:32","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:25:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/774986\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T08:25:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:25:32","slug":"jets-will-franchise-tag-breece-hall-if-plan-a-falls-through","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/774986\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets will franchise tag Breece Hall if Plan A falls through"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INDIANAPOLIS \u2014 Breece Hall is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/21\/sports\/breece-hall-gets-candid-about-mindset-on-murky-jets-future\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not going anywhere<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jets general manager Darren Mougey said Tuesday that the team will use either the franchise or transition tag on Hall if they are unable to reach an agreement on a long-term contract before next Tuesday\u2019s tag deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll find a way to keep Breece here if we can\u2019t get a deal done,\u201d Mougey said here at the NFL scouting combine. \u201cThe tags are an option. Ideally, we\u2019d find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around. I think I\u2019ve said that for the last year since I\u2019ve got here. Breece is a good player. We want to find a way to keep him around. We\u2019ve been going through that process and are still doing so. We have a week to find out if we can\u2019t get to an agreement which way we\u2019ll go with that tag.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.43216783;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"845\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/miami-dolphins-vs-new-york-116948422.jpg\" alt=\"New York Jets running back Breece Hall #20 runs the ball during the fourth quarter.&#10;\" class=\"wp-image-38590463\"  \/>The Jets explained what their plan for Breece Hall is this offseason. Charles Wenzelberg \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>The franchise tag is the more commonly used tag. It would be worth an estimated $14.5 million this year. The Jets would receive two first-round picks if Hall signed with another team. The transition tag is less restrictive and cheaper. It will be worth an estimated $11.7 million in 2026. It allows the Jets to match any offer sheet he receives, but if they don\u2019t match they do not receive any compensation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hall rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards in 2025, but he seemed unhappy with the team. There was a lot of chatter he was going to be moved at last year\u2019s trade deadline but the Jets held onto him. <\/p>\n<p>Hall will turn 25 this offseason and has played in at least 16 games in the past three seasons after suffering a torn ACL during his rookie season. He has averaged 4.5 yards per carry in his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a playmaker,\u201d Mougey said. \u201cHe\u2019s a playmaker and we want to keep playmakers around on both sides of the ball, but he\u2019s a proven playmaker and a good player, a good person, so [we] want to find a way to keep Breece around.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hall has seemed unhappy at times with the Jets in recent years, but Mougey believes Hall wants to stay with the Jets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do get the sense that Breece wants to be here,\u201d Mougey said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had good conversations throughout the season, after the season, so just finding a way to do that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Everyone expects the Jets to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/23\/sports\/justin-fields-lands-on-ir-to-likely-end-disappointing-jets-stint\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">move on from QB Justin Fields<\/a> this offseason, but they don\u2019t appear to be in a rush.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustin is on the roster,\u201d Mougey said, \u201cand just like every position, we\u2019re going to evaluate the quarterback position through every landscape, whether that\u2019s trade, on the street, free agency, to see what we can add to the team. But Justin is under contract, glad he\u2019s under contract.
