<\/a><\/p>\nBuccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht was hit with the money question about his franchise quarterback today at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n
Joe asked Licht if the Bucs plan to make extending Baker Mayfield\u2019s contract a priority for this offseason \u2014 whether that\u2019s one year, two years or more. Mayfield\u2019s current three-year contract expires after the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
Licht wanted to profess his love of Mayfield but wouldn\u2019t slap a timetable on talks.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo Baker, our thoughts on Baker haven\u2019t changed,\u201d Licht said. \u201cBaker has been with us three years, you see the competitor he is. Obviously, he\u2019s got a lot of arm talent, but he\u2019s a leader, all these things. Our plans with Baker haven\u2019t changed. At some point, I don\u2019t have a timetable, I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll be having those discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Licht was pressed to say if those discussions will happen this year and he wasn\u2019t going there. \u201cAt some point, we\u2019ll be having those discusssions,\u201d Licht repeated.<\/p>\n
Yes, one could certainly say the Bucs have greater concerns that the quarterback position.
