Did you notice how Washington Commanders<\/a> GM Adam Peters replied to a question about Brandon Aiyuk?<\/p>\n

At the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this week, Peters was asked about the San Francisco 49ers receiver. Peters appropriately clarified to the reporter that he could not discuss another NFL player who was still under contract with another NFL team.<\/p>\n

But then, knowing he was being filmed, added this little comment, “Second chances, yeah, I think everybody on earth deserves a second chance…In terms of Brandon, love the person, but can’t really comment on the player.” Though since the 2025 season concluded, Aiyuk has been talked about many times in the DMV over the air waves and through social media, this was the first time we had opportunity to see and hear Peters himself comment on Aiyuk.<\/p>\n

Yes, by now, all of Commanders<\/a> Nation knows Jayden Daniels and Aiyuk played together as quarterback and receiver at Arizona State<\/a>. Daniels would most likely love for the Commanders to obtain a player of Aiyuk’s big-play ability. Yet it can’t be avoided that the relationship between the 49ers and Aiyuk ended as it did.<\/p>\n

Aiyuk produced a monster 2023 season with 1,342 receiving yards and an average of 17.9 yards per reception for the 49ers. Starting the first seven games of 2024, Aiyik then tore an ACL in game eight, understandably missing the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

What is not understandable is what in the world happened in 2025? What we do know is that Aiyuk never returned to action for the 2025 season. The 49ers became frustrated when Aiyuk began to fail to fulfill his contractual obligations. According to the 49ers, Aiyuk missed meetings and rehabilitation for his knee injury, all while he reportedly received $49M from the 49ers in 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n

Peters said he loved the person, Aiyuk. Yet the 49ers said Aiyik, the person, stopped showing up for rehab and then stopped communicating altogether. What would possess a young man to quit rehabbing with the team and communicating, putting so much money at risk?<\/p>\n

We don’t know the answer, and perhaps it is possible Aiyuk himself doesn’t know why he made such bizarre, irresponsible decisions. As it looks now, the 49ers will end up releasing Aiyuk.<\/p>\n

Aiyuk will be available, and he and his agent now know Peters still loves Aiyuk, and so does Jayden Daniels. When Peters said he loved Aiyuk the person, was he giving us a hint into the future?<\/p>\n
