Failing that, if you could look at the pool of free agents expected to change teams in March, who do you want the most? Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine highlighted a perfect free agent pickup for all 32 teams, including the Saints. And he chose a new tag-team partner for Chris Olave as an ideal fit in the Saints receiving corps: Green Bay Packers wideout Romeo Doubs.

Romeo Doubs should be looking for a place where he can play a bigger role in free agency. The Saints should be looking for a reliable No. 2 who can play alongside Chris Olave. It’s a hand-in-glove fit.

Doubs isn’t the most electric receiver, but he’s a dependable downfield target who wins more contested catches than his frame would tell you. He’s the kind of receiver who could give Tyler Shough another dependable weapon in an offense that needs them.

Doubs was thrown to 320 times in 59 games over four years with Green Bay; that’s an average of 5.4 targets per game. There’s a lot of qualifiers here so stay with us. In eight games with Tyler Shough starting and Olave available (he missed the season finale due to a blood clot scare), non-Olave wide receivers totaled just 60 targets. That comes up to 7.5 targets per game. Doubs wouldn’t get all of those passes but he would carve out enough of them to make the move worthwhile.

But is a wide receiver really the perfect move for the Saints? The talent pool for receivers is deeper than left guards, and if New Orleans can’t get the offensive line cleaned up to protect Shough, they won’t be hosting a playoff game. Full stop. And getting a finished product in free agency would be their easiest path towards that goal. Doubs would be a big upgrade over many of the games already in their receiving corps. That doesn’t mean signing a receiver is the perfect move the Saints can make.

Expert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.

[2072
95878,7,41,345,2514,2513,6,428,15505,96128,95882,97125,95976,95896,96129,95888,95895,95906,99562,95883,95881
0":"post-783471","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-green-bay-packers","8":"tag-accessfree","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-green-bay","11":"tag-green-bay-packers","12":"tag-greenbay","13":"tag-greenbaypackers","14":"tag-nfl","15":"tag-packers","16":"tag-sstssportsnflsaints","17":"tag-sstsnsaints","18":"tag-tagamerican-football","19":"tag-tagchris-olave","20":"tag-taggreen-bay-packers","21":"tag-tagnational-sports","22":"tag-tagnew-orleans-saints","23":"tag-tagnfl","24":"tag-tagnfl-hub","25":"tag-tagoverall-positive","26":"tag-tagromeo-doubs","27":"tag-tagsports-news","28":"tag-typestory
["GET
