He may not have run, jumped, or even danced on the field, but when a semblance of actual football was played, Ty Simpson \u2014the kid whose film is arguably better than Fernando Mendoza\u2019s<\/a> \u2014 took his turn. <\/p>\n

Currently projected as the second quarterback off the board in April\u2019s NFL draft<\/a>, the Alabama product enjoyed a pretty solid performance at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday. At the very least, one of the live commentators thought so. <\/p>\n

NFL Network\u2019s Daniel Jeremiah provided color during Simpson\u2019s performance. All told, more positives were reflected in the former NFL scout\u2019s voice than negatives. <\/p>\n

\u201cTy Simpson is having a nice start to the day,\u201d Jeremiah said early. <\/p>\n

Simpson, 23, commenced his day by throwing vertical routes to wide receiver prospects in the familiar over-the-shoulder drill. Next, they moved on to the three-step slant drill, which prompted Jeremiah to use the \u201ceffortless\u201d descriptor.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t a perfect day by any means. Some throws, while not completely inaccurate, were either late and\/or behind the intended target. <\/p>\n

Perhaps the most notable comment during the workout came from the aforementioned Jeremiah. <\/p>\n

Leading the receiver on a tight-split vertical, out front and to the outside, Simpson hit his man in stride. Jeremiah naturally took notice. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a perfect throw from Simpson,\u201d Jeremiah said. \u201cHe\u2019s had a really nice throwing session.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNice\u201d is most likely the correct term. Simpson threw the ball well, but those who get carried away in this particular setting are in danger of traveling well beyond familiar roads. <\/p>\n

This is the combine. These are drills notorious for hyping up quarterbacks when the hype is severely questionable, or for unintentionally face-planting other prospects who turn out to be slightly underdrafted. <\/p>\n

On Saturday, Ty Simpson threw against \u201cair.\u201d <\/p>\n

Unlike his 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions on 64.5% passing in 15 games this past season for Alabama, the QB2\u2019s combine day must be taken with a grain of salt. <\/p>\n
