The NFL announced on Friday that the salary cap would be increased by $22 million this year, to $301.2 million per team.<\/p>\n

What does that mean for the New York Giants<\/a>? Not much, as they anticipated the increase in their transactions over the past few years.<\/p>\n

Per Over The Cap<\/a>, the Giants have just $2.78 million in available cap space this morning. They will undoubtedly have to do some major cost-cutting in the next few weeks if they are to be serious players in the free agency market come March 11.<\/p>\n

There are several possible “cap casualties<\/a>” that would free up significant space, but they may not be enough. They will also have to rework some existing contracts to claw back some further cap space.<\/p>\n

The initiative under new head coach John Harbaugh is to mold the roster to fit his vision. That can’t be done cheaply and may not happen overnight.<\/p>\n
