With the NFL’s 2026 salary cap now officially set, where do the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> rank in salary cap space compared to the rest of the league heading into the 2026 offseason?<\/p>\n

The salary cap figure for this season is set at $301.2 million<\/a>. This is up $22 million from the 2025 season and up nearly $100 million from 2022, when the cap figure was $208.2 million.<\/p>\n

According to Over the Cap<\/a>, this puts the Jaguars<\/a> at $15.92 million over the salary cap ceiling, meaning that GM James Gladstone has work to do before free agency officially opens on March 11th.<\/p>\n

Not only does he need to get under the salary cap, but he also needs room to be able to make any additions.<\/p>\n

Cap space can be created in three different ways. One is through a contract restructure, which pushes cap charges from the current season to future contract years. In the present, a player’s salary cap hit shrinks, but it’s then inflated in 2027 and beyond.<\/p>\n

In some instances, a contract extension can create cap space in the present as well. Travon Walker<\/a> is a prime extension candidate this offseason that would save the Jaguars cap space in the process.<\/p>\n

Lastly, there are veteran cuts or trades if the player’s cap hit is larger than their dead cap hit.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars actually have the ability to create quite a bit more space, as we detailed\u00a0here<\/a>, it just depends on how aggressive Gladstone wants to be.<\/p>\n

Not helping the Jaguars’ cap situation is the hefty amount of dead cap<\/a> they are carrying in 2026 after quite a bit of roster turnover last year.<\/p>\n
