Unless he doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48045815\/2026-nfl-combine-latest-buzz-news-rumors-free-agency-draft-qbs-trades-offseason\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shared a collection of reports and buzz out of Indianapolis<\/a> this weekend during the NFL Combine. One of those reports was that Montgomery \u201cwants out\u201d of Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026At running back, the Lions\u2019 David Montgomery wants out, has a reasonable contract (owed $6 million in 2026) and is 28,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48045815\/2026-nfl-combine-latest-buzz-news-rumors-free-agency-draft-qbs-trades-offseason\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they wrote<\/a>. \u201cThat has value. Word out of Indy is that Detroit would want a decent Day 3 pick (possibly a fifth-rounder) in return. Seattle makes sense here if it can\u2019t re-sign Kenneth Walker III.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That bit of information was aggregated and shared on X by the Underdog NFL account, and Montgomery responded to that with a question of his own.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Damn, Dmo told you that ? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ttg4DY6H99\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/ttg4DY6H99<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Montgomery (@MontgomerDavid) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MontgomerDavid\/status\/2028114460360273971?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March 1, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamn, Dmo told you that?\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Just to drive home how notable his response is, that\u2019s Montgomery\u2019s\u00a0first post on the platform since March 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old garnered 716 yards and eight touchdowns for the Lions last season, forming a solid tandem with Jahmyr Gibbs dubbed \u201cSonic and Knuckles.\u201d However, as Gibbs became the breakout star this season, Montgomery\u2019s role was diminished somewhat, leading to speculation that he might want to move on.<\/p>\n<p>Now, while Montgomery made a statement by responding to the report, he didn\u2019t deny that it might happen. You could read that this was his way of saying a trade demand isn\u2019t coming from him, but he didn\u2019t close the door on it happening by any means.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/stories\/nfl\/lions-rb-david-montgomery-questions-report-he-wants-leave-detroit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to Over The Cap<\/a>, trading Montgomery would open up $3.5 million in cap space for the Lions, who are currently a little more than $12 million over.
