{"id":787204,"date":"2026-03-02T18:12:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T18:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/787204\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T18:12:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T18:12:23","slug":"steelers-reporter-says-aaron-rodgers-decision-wont-impact-nfl-draft-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/787204\/","title":{"rendered":"Steelers Reporter Says Aaron Rodgers&#8217; Decision Won&#8217;t Impact NFL Draft Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2026 NFL Draft begins on April 23.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Rodgers\u2019 decision to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, retire or join another team <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnetpittsburgh.com\/2026\/02\/08\/report-odds-are-increasing-that-aaron-rodgers-returns-to-steelers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">could come any day now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Steelers reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.post-gazette.com\/sports\/2026-nfl-draft\/2026\/03\/02\/nfl-free-agency-draft-aaron-rodgers\/stories\/202603020028\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette<\/a> wrote on Monday that the four-time MVP\u2019s plans won\u2019t impact what the team does during the draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Steelers could find out this week if Aaron Rodgers intends to return for the 2026 season to be their starting quarterback, even though his decision will not affect what they might do in the April draft,\u201d Dulac said. \u201cIf he does return, that will bring a little more clarity to what the Steelers plan to do at the position. If he doesn\u2019t, that will further muddle their plans for 2026 and could cause them to do something they likely had hoped to avoid \u2013 bring in another free-agent quarterback. But it won\u2019t force the Steelers into taking a quarterback in the first round of the draft out of desperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh has 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard returning in 2026 and <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnetpittsburgh.com\/2026\/02\/28\/ty-simpson-strong-message-catch-steelers-attention\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">met with<\/a> quarterbacks Carson Beck (Miami), Drew Allar (Penn State) and Ty Simpson (Alabama) during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis recently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Dulac reported Monday that according to his sources, <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnetpittsburgh.com\/2026\/02\/10\/nfl-insiders-say-steelers-mike-mccarthy-already-on-the-hot-seat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new head coach<\/a> Mike McCarthy\u2019s \u201chandling of the interviews was detailed, interrogative and impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Steelers have little if no intention of taking a quarterback with their top pick because they think there is only one \u2014 Indiana\u2019s Fernando Mendoza \u2014 worthy of going in the first round. But just because they wouldn\u2019t draft a quarterback in the first round doesn\u2019t mean they wouldn\u2019t take one from among the four picks they have in Day 2.
