The Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> saw great improvement from their defense in 2025, but pass rush is still an area of need, and for defensive tackle in particular. And an opportunity to add depth to that position has suddenly become available.<\/p>\n

Earlier, sources speculated that Minnesota Vikings<\/a> DT Javon Hargrave would be potentially available<\/a> for a trade; now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that he has been informed that he will be released, making him a free agent.<\/p>\n

This could be particularly convenient timing; Hargrave is a two-time Pro Bowler, and so far, options for good defensive tackles in free agency and the draft are limited<\/a>. Up until now, the most notable option \u2014 in free agency, anyway \u2014 was John Franklin-Myers, of the Denver Broncos<\/a>. But he would have been expensive and extremely in-demand.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars<\/a> can’t afford to chase after one of the most pricey and sought-after free agents, given their current salary cap<\/a> situation. Yet that doesn’t mean Hargrave would be a bad option; he is still a reliable player. In 2025<\/a>, he appeared in 16 games, with 52 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.<\/p>\n

Hargrave is known for his ability to pressure quarterbacks and for his speed and power. His production has declined slightly from its peak in recent years, but not so much that he wouldn’t be an asset to the Jacksonville defense. He would add much-needed depth and leadership to the room and give the Jaguars more time to find younger prospects.<\/p>\n

Of course, the issue at hand is money; the Jags simply do not have a lot of it to spare. But the Jaguars will surely be making salary cap maneuvers in the offseason, which will free up space, and James Gladstone is also known to be aggressive with players he wants. If the Jaguars want Hargrave, there is no doubt they will find a way to get him.<\/p>\n
