{"id":788363,"date":"2026-03-03T06:02:41","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T06:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/788363\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T06:02:41","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T06:02:41","slug":"commanders-cut-pro-bowl-corner-marshon-lattimore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/788363\/","title":{"rendered":"Commanders cut Pro Bowl corner Marshon Lattimore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marshon Lattimore\u2019s career continues to hurtle downhill.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the Washington Commanders informed the once-star corner that they\u2019re going to release him before the new league year begins on March 11, ESPN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/2028542315992580194\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Adam Schefter reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move saves the Commanders $18.5 million in cap space, adding to the $67 million that they have available, the fifth-most in the league currently. With even more room to maneuver from Monday\u2019s decision, Washington should be aggressive in free agency, especially in the secondary.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38650385\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/AP_Commanders_Lattimore_Arrest_Football_06895-14400-0.jpg\" alt=\"Washington Commanders player, Jamin Davis, wearing his uniform during a game.\" class=\"wp-image-38650385\"  \/>Marshon Lattimore produced just one interception in his injury-riddled Commanders tenure. AP<\/p>\n<p>Lattimore, 29, hasn\u2019t produced at the same level he showed at the beginning of his career across the last four years. Starting with the New Orleans Saints, the 2017 first-round pick began with Pro Bowl selections in four of his first five NFL seasons as well as an AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>In those years, he snagged 13 picks, including five as a rookie.<\/p>\n<p>But since then, injuries have derailed his success. He hasn\u2019t played a full season since 2021, missing time because of a lacerated kidney and broken ribs in 2022, an ankle injury in 2023, hamstring issues in 2024 and a torn ACL in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The latter two setbacks came after a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/05\/betting\/commanders-bolster-super-bowl-playoff-odds-after-marshon-lattimore-trade\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trade to Washington<\/a> at the 2024 deadline. He missed most of the end of the 2024 regular season but played in the Commanders\u2019 three playoff games.<\/p>\n<p>Without Lattimore, Washington\u2019s ranks are thin at cornerback. It retains 2024 second-round pick Mike Sainristil, who has six interceptions over his first two years in the NFL, and Trey Amos, a rookie in 2025 who played just 10 games before breaking his leg.<\/p>\n<p>The Commanders are looking to bounce back in 2026 after they went 5-12 last season. They made the NFC Championship Game the year prior, a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/25\/sports\/jayden-daniels-superpower-has-him-just-one-step-away-from-nfl-lore\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resurgent season<\/a> led by first-year head coach Dan Quinn and AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38650362\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/150410238_861673216.jpg\" alt=\"New Orleans Saints player P.J. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Daniels went down with a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/02\/sports\/commanders-jayden-daniels-suffers-horrific-arm-injury-in-chilling-scene\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gruesome arm injury<\/a> in November, and everything unraveled from there. Washington lost eight games in a row from October to December.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019ll look to improve in free agency \u2014 with some extra cash from releasing Lattimore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Marshon Lattimore\u2019s career continues to hurtle downhill.
