Derek Carr’s return to the NFL may be on hold. The Saints reportedly have yet to hear from teams on trading for Carr, according to NBC Sports’ Mike Florio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In early February, Carr said that he would consider ending his retirement for a team with a shot at the Super Bowl<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould I do it? Yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not,\u201d Carr said on the “Home Grown with Derek and David Carr”<\/a> podcast. \u201cI\u2019d have to be healthy and I\u2019d want a chance to win a Super Bowl. And obviously, that\u2019s a tough thing to find. That\u2019s hard to do. That\u2019s not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old retired in May <\/a>after a labral tear in his shoulder and damage to his rotator cuff threatened his availability for the 2025-2026 season. Carr is still under contract with the Saints, should he decide to unretire. The Saints replaced Carr with rookie quarterback Tyler Shough<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since his injury, Carr is now more than a year removed from the shoulder issue he suffered in the 2024-25 season. He opted against surgery and chose rehabilitation. Carr reportedly now has no shoulder limitations and is routinely throwing.<\/p>\n

Last year, teams were interested in Carr as injuries piled up at the quarterback position. When Pro Bowl quarterback Joe Burrow<\/a> went down, the Cincinnati Bengals reportedly inquired about Carr before trading for Joe Flacco<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Raiders are one team that has reportedly been linked to Carr. He spent his first nine years with the franchise after being drafted in 2014, playing in both Oakland and Las Vegas. He helped lead the Raiders to two playoff appearances and is the Raiders’ all-time leading passer, having thrown for 35,222 yards.<\/p>\n

Carr is also familiar with Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak.
