Breece Hall<\/a>\u00a0is the third\u00a0NFL<\/a>\u00a0player this offseason to receive the franchise tag, joining\u00a0Atlanta Falcons<\/a>\u00a0tight end\u00a0Kyle Pitts<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Dallas Cowboys<\/a>\u00a0wide receiver\u00a0George Pickens<\/a>. The New York Jets<\/a>\u00a0made the move with Hall hours before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline, as confirmed<\/a> by CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones.<\/p>\n

Hall, 24, is the first running back to receive the tag for the 2026 season. He is slated to make $14.293 million, which would make him the league’s fourth-highest-paid player at his position behind only Saquon Barkley<\/a>, Christian McCaffrey<\/a> and Derrick Henry<\/a>\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n

There’s a chance, however, that Hall does not play the upcoming season under the tag as the two sides will continue to work towards a long-term deal. Players who are franchise tagged have until 4 p.m. on July 15 to reach terms on a long-term contract before the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

While the Jets have continued to struggle, Hall has nonetheless proven to be a productive player during his time in New York. The former second-round pick has averaged 978 rushing yards over the past three seasons. This past season, Hall ran for a career-high 1,065 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry.<\/p>\n

In addition to his rushing prowess, Hall has also proven to be a valuable asset in the passing game. He has averaged 56 receptions per year over the past three years. In 2023 (his second season with the Jets), Hall set career highs with 76 receptions for 591 yards and four touchdowns despite starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers<\/a> sustaining a season-ending injury in Week 1.<\/p>\n

Prior to getting franchise tagged, Hall was slated to join the list of notable running backs who are slated to hit the open market when free agency officially opens next Wednesday, March 11.
