Play at the position has, undoubtedly, improved each year since Venables arrived. But on Tuesday afternoon he landed his biggest linebacker recruiting since his arrival, Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian standout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/cooper-witten-243875\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper Witten<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Elite 2027 LB Cooper Witten has Committed to Oklahoma, he tells me for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Rivals?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@Rivals<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 6\u20192 215 LB from Argyle, TX chose the Sooners over Tennessee, Texas A&amp;M, and Georgia<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s the son of 11-time Pro Bowler and Oklahoma TE Coach Jason Witten<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rdVVkDZfoo\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/rdVVkDZfoo<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HjNAT251qv\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/HjNAT251qv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Hayesfawcett3\/status\/2028936736122806517?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March 3, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Witten announced his commitment to the Sooners over the likes of Tennessee, Texas A&amp;M, and offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas, and Oregon among just about every other major program in the country. <\/p>\n<p>When the Sooners hired his father, Jason Witten, as their new tight ends coach, this felt like a foregone conclusion. The idea was something that the younger Witten tried to separate himself from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad has been my coach the past few years of this high school career, so getting coached by him again and playing for him would be pretty cool,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/news\/inside-the-recruitment-of-5-star-lb-cooper-witten\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Witten previously told Rivals.com\u2019s Sam Spiegelman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want that to be the defining factor in where I want to go. I want to find the best fit for me,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, the nation\u2019s No. 2 linebacker looked around at a few other programs in the past few months.
