The Arizona Cardinals have informed quarterback Kyler Murray<\/a> that they plan to release him next Wednesday, when the new league year begins, barring a trade, sources told ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Murray, who was the 2019 No. 1 draft pick, posted a farewell to Arizona on X on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cTo everyone that supported me and showed kindness to my family and I during my time in AZ, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I wanted nothing more than to be the one to end the 77 year drought for this organization, I am sorry I failed us. I wish this community and my brothers nothing but the best. I am no stranger to adversity, I am prepared for whatever\u2019s next. I trust in God and my work ethic. I truly believe my best ball is in front of me and I look forward to proving it. Godspeed,\u201d Murray wrote. <\/p>\n

Getting released was Murray\u2019s preferred outcome, a source told ESPN<\/a>. In addition, the source said Murray has two teams he prefers to join.<\/p>\n

Could the Pittsburgh Steelers be one of those teams? The Steelers don\u2019t have many options if Aaron Rodgers <\/a>decides to not return. <\/p>\n

Murray was a two-time Pro Bowler<\/a> earlier in his career with the Cardinals. He\u2019s a phenomenal athlete, and would give the Steelers a running component they haven\u2019t had in a regular starter since Kordell Stewart.<\/p>\n

However, Murray has struggled to help put the Cardinals over the top with just a 38-48-1 career starting record in the regular season. He also lost his lone playoff appearance in 2021.<\/p>\n

Murray is also 5-foot-10 and four-tenths of an inch shorter than Russell Wilson, the current shortest quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl. He\u2019s also no longer young at 29, and has played a full season of football just once in the last five years.<\/p>\n

A native of Bedford, Texas, Murray has thrown for 20,460 yards, 121 touchdowns and 60 interceptions in his professional career. He has also rushed for 3,193 yards and 32 more scores.<\/p>\n
