Maryland football alum Stefon Diggs will be released by the New England Patriots when the new league year starts on March 11, NFL Network\u2019s Tom Pelissero first reported.<\/p>\n

The Patriots will save $16.8 million by cutting Diggs, who was set to be owed $26.5 million in 2026.<\/p>\n

The former Terp enjoyed a bounceback 2025 in New England after tearing his ACL with the Houston Texans the year prior. Diggs led the Patriots in receptions (85) and receiving yards (1,013) alongside four touchdowns, and helped his team reach Super Bowl 60. Diggs had three catches for 37 yards in the loss to the Seahawks.<\/p>\n

Diggs\u2019 release also comes with the receiver facing criminal charges, including felony strangulation<\/a>, stemming from a December encounter with his former personal chef. The woman claims Diggs \u201csmacked her across the face\u201d and \u201ctried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck,\u201d according to ESPN. Diggs has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n
