Could be a lot worse, but could be a lot better, too (paging Russ Ball).

As free agency looms, GM Brian Gutekunst will have less flexibility than last year — but moves are still possible. Micah Parsons aside, we all know the Packers prefer value or splash. That, plus limited cap flexibility means the team will most likely pursue practical, mid-tier targets.

Bill Huber’s recent list of realistic free-agent options highlights several players who could help the Packers address roster weaknesses without jeopardizing their long-term plans or their preference for collecting compensatory picks.

Near the top of that list is center Tyler Biadasz. The Wisconsin native and former Badgers standout was recently released by the Washington Commanders, making him a true street free agent. As our own RCon14 recently wrote, Biadasz offers upside and would immediately solve one of the Packers’ lingering offensive-line questions. And having been released, signing him would not count against the team’s compensatory-pick formula. The signing would be cap-tested, Ted Thompson’s ghost-approved. If you get both those references, it’s time to book a colonoscopy.

Another practical option from Huber’s list is veteran defensive tackle Calais Campbell. At 39 years old, he’d be a bit of an exception to the team’s typical modus operandi, but the connection to new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon could make the move appealing.

This list goes on, and it’s a good reminder that while the Packers may not be in a position to make any blockbuster acquisitions, practical moves exist which could help them find solid ground in a crowded NFC.

Packers restructure Xavier McKinney’s contract – In a first step towards creating some cap flexibility, the Packers have restructured safety Xavier McKinney’s contract. But just how much cap space did they free up? The devil will be in the details.

[2072
52136,7,41,345,2702,2514,2513,6,428
0":"post-794134","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-green-bay-packers","8":"tag-cheese-curds-daily-green-bay-packers-news-and-links","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-green-bay","11":"tag-green-bay-packers","12":"tag-green-bay-packers-news","13":"tag-greenbay","14":"tag-greenbaypackers","15":"tag-nfl","16":"tag-packers
["GET
