JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The NCAA is appealing a judge\u2019s decision to allow Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to play in the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
After a court battle<\/a> in February, a Mississippi judge issued an injunction, allowing Chambliss an extra year of eligibility.<\/p>\n This coming a month after<\/a> the NCAA had denied Chambliss the extension request. <\/p>\n State Court Judge Robert Whitwell ruled that Chambliss met the requirements to receive a medical redshirt for a sixth season of college football.<\/p>\n However, the NCAA has now issued a filing to the Mississippi Supreme Court in which they have asked for Judge Whitwell\u2019s injunction to be overturned. <\/p>\n The NCAA claimed in its Thursday filing that this case is based upon whether the NCAA has \u201cfinal decision-making authority in the interpretation and application of its eligibility rules or whether its decisions are subject to appellate review by trial courts.\u201d<\/p>\n This is a developing story.<\/p>\n Want more WLBT news in your inbox?
