The Indianapolis Colts<\/a> are looking to trade one of their defensive starters, and that should interest the Dallas Cowboys<\/a>, New York Giants<\/a>, and Washington Commanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Adam Schefter<\/a> reported on Thursday that the Colts are talking to the teams about a trade involving linebacker Zaire Franklin.<\/p>\n

Indianapolis is currently $4 million under the cap<\/a> and is working to get above the cap before free agency kicks off next week.<\/p>\n

“The Colts are speaking with teams about a trade for their former Pro Bowl LB Zaire Franklin as they look to get under the salary cap by next week, per sources,” Schefter said.<\/p>\n

Dallas, New York, and Washington immediately come to mind as teams that could trade for Franklin.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys must upgrade their linebacker room, as Kenneth Murray isn’t a starting-caliber player, and DeMarvion Overshown needs some help. Dallas also recently released<\/a> Logan Wilson, whom they acquired at the 2025 trade deadline, but he didn’t work out.<\/p>\n

Acquiring an experienced player like Franklin, who has made 82 starts since entering the league in 2018, would be a savvy move by the Cowboys.<\/p>\n

Dallas’ NFC East rivals, the Giants and Commanders, could also use linebacker help. New York released Bobby Okereke<\/a> this week, and could replace him with Franklin to serve as the new No. 1 linebacker on Dennard Wilson’s defense.<\/p>\n

As for Washington, Bobby Wagner is set to hit free agency, and Franklin could step in as the replacement next to Frankie Luvu.<\/p>\n

Franklin had a down year in 2025, but if he can return to form, he would be a plus starter for Dallas, New York, or Washington, so all three franchises should look into trading for the Colts linebacker.<\/p>\n
