February\u2019s recruiting dead period is now in the rearview mirror, so a busy stretch is coming for the Michigan Wolverines\u2019 coaching staff. Spring ball is about to begin, and so are spring visits. Let\u2019s take a look at the latest happenings in the recruiting world on today\u2019s Recruiting Roundup.<\/p>\n
Four-star Notre Dame commit talks Michigan interest<\/p>\n
The Wolverines are looking to heat things up in the 2027 class, and a crucial target is four-star cornerback Xavier Hasan<\/a>. He has been committed to Notre Dame since December, but a recent Michigan offer could change things.<\/p>\n \u201cI was really excited,\u201d Hasan told On3\u2019s Ethan McDowell ($)<\/a>. \u201cMy dad was super excited because we grew up Michigan fans. It was special.<\/p>\n \u201cHe would go to all the Michigan games from a young age, so he really put that in my head\u2014 it would just be everything Michigan. Detroit \u2014 the Pistons, the Lions and the Wolverines \u2014 those were my favorite teams growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n Hasan also noted Michigan used to be his \u201cdream school\u201d before committing to the Irish, but he still has some interest in the Wolverines. Michigan\u2019s new cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford is starting to form a good relationship with Hasan, which is a good first step in trying to pull off a flip.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s not too much over the top, which I really like,\u201d Hasan said. \u201cI like a coach I can just go and talk to about anything pretty much.\u201d<\/p>\n Hasan (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) is ranked No. 41 overall on the 247Sports composite.<\/p>\n Important 2027 target high on Michigan<\/p>\n Another big target for Michigan in the secondary in the 2027 class is safety Darrell Mattison<\/a>. The Wolverines have been in constant contact with the Chicago native, and safeties coach Tyler Stockton is leading the charge.<\/p>\n \u201cHe came and talked to my mom and everybody, and he kept it straight up with me,\u201d Mattison told On3\u2019s McDowell ($)<\/a>. \u201cHe was like \u2018You\u2019ve got to do this and that, and we\u2019re treating you like a priority.\u2019 They probably talk to me about every other day. They\u2019re talking to me every other day and just seeing what\u2019s up, what\u2019s going on, just building that relationship, and that\u2019s very important.\u201d<\/p>\n Mattison is feeling the love from Stockton the coaching staff, and that is a big reason why he is so high on the Wolverines right now.<\/p>\n \u201cTheir head coach, the defensive coordinator and the safeties coach, them three alone, they run things,\u201d Mattison said. \u201cIt was like, \u2018Oh yeah, we really want this kid,\u2019 and that\u2019s what really sparked my interest.\u201d<\/p>\n Michigan is one of Mattison\u2019s top schools right now, but his decision will be made after he gets to visit all of his top options. He will get the chance to see Ann Arbor up close this spring, along with other schools he has interest in like Indiana, Penn State and West Virginia.
