The San Francisco 49ers<\/a> made some significant changes to their wide receiver room this offseason, sending Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders<\/a> in a trade and signing former Los Angeles Rams<\/a> wideout Demarcus Robinson in free agency.<\/p>\n

On top of those moves, San Francisco also selected Jordan Watkins in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft and Junior Bergen in the seventh round before signing Isaiah Neyor as an undrafted free agent.<\/p>\n

With Brandon Aiyuk’s status for Week 1 in question after he tore his ACL midway through the 2024 season, the 49ers<\/a> may still be looking to add a wide receiver to make things easier for recently extended quarterback Brock Purdy.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton urged<\/a> San Francisco to bring in another veteran receiver before the 2025 season opener, and the specific wideout he suggested was Amari Cooper.<\/p>\n

Cooper, 30, was a first-round pick (No. 4 overall) of the Oakland Raiders<\/a> in the 2015 NFL draft. After making two Pro Bowls in his first three years in Oakland, Cooper was traded to the Dallas Cowboys<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n

The wideout made another Pro Bowl in that split season between the Raiders and Cowboys before Dallas sent him to the Cleveland Browns<\/a> in another trade in 2022. Just three years later, Cleveland sent Cooper to the Buffalo Bills<\/a> midway through this past season.<\/p>\n

In his 10 professional seasons, Cooper has recorded 711 receptions for 10,033 yards and 64 touchdowns, but 2024 was his worst season yet, catching just 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games between Buffalo and Cleveland.<\/p>\n

Cooper is in his early 30s now and may be experiencing the dreaded dropoff already, but there’s still a chance that he can bounce back and be a capable receiver in 2025. For what Cooper will likely cost, the 49ers should at least consider bringing him in, and if it doesn’t work out, they can probably cut him for nothing.<\/p>\n
