The Chargers<\/a> are reportedly keeping tabs on Eagles<\/a> wide receiver A.J. Brown, who is on the trade block this offseason.<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Eagles are taking a firm stance on their steep asking price for Brown. The Patriots, who parted ways with wide receiver Stefon Diggs, have “poked around.”<\/p>\n

The return for a Brown trade is not publicly known, but there is speculation the significant return includes a first and second round pick. There are financial implications for the Eagles, since trading the 28-year-old before June 1st would result in a $43.4 million dead cap hit for Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Last season, Brown eclipsed 1,000 yards, averaging 12.9 yards per catch on 78 receptions in 15 games with the Eagles. The receiver is reportedly frustrated and unhappy with Philadelphia, a team that lost to the 49ers in the NFC Wild Card round.<\/p>\n

As the Eagles look to part ways with Brown, a trade for any team would be costly.<\/p>\n

Do the Chargers need A.J. Brown?<\/p>\n

The Chargers could use a true No. 1 wide receiver like Brown in their offense. While Keenan Allen’s return certainly gave the team a boost and allowed Justin Herbert to find a consistent target on the field, the veteran wasn’t the WR1.<\/p>\n

Neither was Ladd McConkey, who is coming off a down year where he recorded 789 yards on 66 receptions.<\/p>\n

General manager Joe Hortiz revealed the Chargers would be prioritizing helping Herbert, which includes giving the former Oregon product more weapons on the field.<\/p>\n

“We’re going to attack the O-line, we’re going to attack the defense, we’re going to attack the backs and tight ends, everything,” Hortiz said. “The more weapons and more players we can put around Justin, the better we protect Justin.”<\/p>\n

Perhaps Hortiz will shake things up and strike a deal for Brown.<\/p>\n
