On the eve of the NFL’s legal tampering period starting, the Indianapolis Colts<\/a> have retained one of their own free agents.<\/p>\n

According to multiple reports, the Colts<\/a> are re-signing kicker Blake Grupe. It is a one-year deal worth $1.4 million, per the Indy Star.<\/p>\n

Grupe was signed late last season as the Colts navigated inconsistency at kicker with Michael Badgley, who replaced Spencer Shrader after he was placed on injured reserve with a season-ending knee injury.<\/p>\n

From Week 14 through the end of the season, Grupe was a perfect 10-for-10 on field goal attempts and 11-for-11 on extra points, according to PFF<\/a>. He provided the Colts with needed stability at the position.<\/p>\n

Why did the Colts re-sign Blake Grupe?<\/p>\n

Retaining Grupe gives the Colts insurance at the kicker spot. Shrader is coming off an ACL injury, and when healthy, Grupe can provide Shrader with competition for the kicking job.<\/p>\n

Although Shrader was steady for the Colts early last season, he is still a relatively inexperienced kicker, with only 19 career field goal attempts.<\/p>\n

Before joining the Colts in 2025, Grupe was released by the New Orleans after appearing in 11 games. For his career, he has made 98% of his 98 extra point attempts, and he’s hit 81.9% of his field goal attempts. This includes making 75% of his kicks from 40-49 yards and 70.4% of his kicks from 50-plus.<\/p>\n
