Penning never quite found his footing as a starter for the Chargers but he provided value as the team\u2019s swing tackle in heavy personnel packages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">That little bit of impact he had on the running game was seemingly enough to earn him another contract with the Chargers. Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bolts are inking a new one-year, $4.5 million deal with Penning to keep him in Los Angeles for another year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Penning is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2022 out of the University of Northern Iowa. He started out as a tackle for New Orleans but was transitioned to guard during the 2024 season.
