The trade details for new Pittsburgh Steelers WR Michael Pittman Jr. are now revealed, per Mark Kaboly of The Pat McAfee Show<\/a>. The Steelers will give up one of their sixth-round picks in exchange for Pittman and a seventh-round pick from Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh entered the day projected to have 12 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. With the NFL\u2019s compensatory picks announced<\/a>, that was proven to be the case. That is still the case after this late-round pick swap, albeit with slightly less overall draft value to work with. It\u2019s unknown which one of the Steelers\u2019 three sixth-round picks they will give up in the trade.<\/p>\n

With the Steelers gaining two sixth-round comp picks today, the team will still have two sixth-round selections to work with. Trading for Pittman also allowed the Steelers to add a veteran receiver without eating into their 2027 compensatory pick formula<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Colts were looking to offload Pittman\u2019s contract after giving Alec Pierce a massive new deal amid contract negotiations with QB Daniel Jones. The Steelers were happy to scoop him up at that price with plenty of picks and cap space to work with. It frees up money for Indianapolis while giving the Steelers a proven veteran who they can play as their No. 2 WR across from DK Metcalf<\/p>\n

Considering what the Steelers gave up to get Metcalf a year ago\u2014a second-round pick\u2014this is a bargain for the Steelers. He had 21 more receptions and one more TD than Metcalf did a year ago. The Steelers also signed Pittman to a new contract to keep him in Pittsburgh through 2028<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pittman has gone over 1,000 yards twice in his career, but he\u2019s slowed down a bit with age and injuries. Still, he\u2019s a strong route-runner<\/a> and can create separation underneath, which should play well in Pittsburgh. That will be especially beneficial if Aaron Rodgers returns as quarterback.<\/p>\n

In addition to reportedly trading for Pittman, the Steelers are reportedly signing CB Jamel Dean and RB Rico Dowdle on the first day of the legal tampering period. Pittman is the most high-profile acquisition to help Pittsburgh\u2019s production void at receiver, though Dean and Dowdle should also play big roles for the Steelers.<\/p>\n
