The San Francisco 49ers<\/a>\u2019 pursuit of a wide receiver likely took a different turn after the team signed veteran star Mike Evans.<\/p>\n

With Evans now in the mix, the likelihood of the 49ers making a move for Green Bay Packers<\/a> receiver Romeo Doubs doesn\u2019t seem likely, despite many, including Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, reporting before free agency that Doubs was an option in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

“Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs plans to hit the market. Talks with Green Bay did not result in a new deal. He’ll have several suitors. The Patriots<\/a>, Commanders<\/a>, and Titans<\/a> are closely watching his market, along with the 49ers. Doubs is considered by some evaluators to be the best all-around receiver in the group,\u201d he wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

San Francisco entered the offseason looking to improve its receiving corps, as it will lose Brandon Aiyuk, who didn\u2019t play last season.<\/p>\n

Doubs was a potential target because of his age, upside, and the chance to be a legitimate top-two wide receiver on a team. The 25-year-old had shown flashes during his time in Green Bay.<\/p>\n

However, the addition of Evans completely changes everything. Evans, one of the most consistent receivers in football over the past decade, instantly becomes a centerpiece of the 49ers\u2019 offense. The veteran has been just as good as any receiver in football and will put San Francisco in a good spot on that front.<\/p>\n
