The contract can be finalized beginning Wednesday at 4 PM/EST when the NFL’s 2026 league year officially begins.

Per Over the Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald, Dean’s deal includes $12 million guaranteed in the form of a signing bonus. He has an additional $4 million roster bonus due on the third day of the 2027 league year.

Per Fitzgerald’s numbers, Dean carries a modest $5.5 million first year cap charge. That spikes to $16 million for the 2027 season and $15.25 million for the final year, though an increasing salary cap will make those numbers feel smaller over time.

Still, this deal gives Pittsburgh an “escape hatch” should Dean struggle in 2026. The Steelers can save $8 million in cap space by cutting Dean before next year’s roster bonus, though they’ll also incur an $8 million dead money charge. In structure, it’s a solid win for GM Omar Khan.

Over the Cap has Jamel Dean deal as having a $12M signing bonus, and 2026 base salary of $1.5M. Only the $12M is guaranteed in the deal. 2026 cap charge comes in at $5.5M. Jumps to $16M in 2027 and that includes a $4M roster bonus next March. 2026 cash is $13.5M. #Steelers #NFL…

— Steelers Depot 7⃣ (@Steelersdepot) March 10, 2026

Pittsburgh’s contracts often carry an early-year roster bonus in place of offering fully guaranteed money past Year One. Those structures are reserved for the Steelers’ largest contracts like the ones EDGE T.J. Watt and WR DK Metcalf have received in recent seasons.

While Dean’s contract failed to surpass ILB Patrick Queen as the largest external free agent signing in franchise history, Dean’s overall figure isn’t far off. Pittsburgh hopes his size and physicality fits in well in the AFC North and creates a uniquely tall cornerback duo opposite from Joey Porter Jr.

Dean is one of three external acquisitions agreed to Monday. Pittsburgh is also set to sign RB Rico Dowdle to offset the loss of RB Kenneth Gainwell. Dowdle’s deal is worth $12.25 million over two years. The team also agreed to trade for Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. and will sign him to a three-year, $59 million extension shortly after the deal is finalized later this week.

New contract details have been released for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jamel Dean, who agreed to a three-year, $36.75…

[2026
7,7343,23289,57
0":"post-804265","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-football","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-jamel-dean","10":"tag-jason-fitzgerald","11":"tag-pittsburgh-steelers
["GET
