The Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> continue to rework existing contracts in an effort to create more salary cap space.<\/p>\n

According to Over the Cap<\/a>, the Jaguars<\/a> restructured the contract of center Robert Hainsey by converting $5.03 million of his base salary in 2026 to a bonus. This move reduced his 2026 cap hit by $4.028 million.<\/p>\n

In short, contract restructures take cap charges from the current year and push them to future years.<\/p>\n

Along with the restructure, Jacksonville also added three void years to Hainsey’s deal to help further reduce his cap hit in the current year.<\/p>\n

Void years, meanwhile, are not an extension, but rather a bookkeeping measure that puts more years on the contract on paper. Hainsey is still set to be a free agent in 2028, at which point the cap charges from the void years will accelerate and come due as dead cap.<\/p>\n

How much salary cap space do the Jaguars have?<\/p>\n

This cap maneuver gives the Jaguars $4.13 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season. Compared to the rest of the NFL, this ranks<\/a> as the 26th most.<\/p>\n

Through the first day of NFL free agency, the Jaguars were one of five teams not to make an outside addition<\/a>. They have the means to create more space, and will have to do so in the coming days, not only to make any outside signings — or to continue re-signing their own free agents — but there are future cap expenses coming down the road, such as the cost of signing the incoming draft class, that Jacksonville has to be prepared for.<\/p>\n
