The New England Patriots<\/a> no longer have Stefon Diggs<\/a> on the roster. The Patriots officially released Diggs at the start of the NFL\u2019s new league year, the team announced<\/a>. The 32-year-old wide receiver was cut due to the financials. However, could Diggs shockingly return to the Patriots for the 2026-27 NFL season?<\/p>\n

New England has not ruled out re-signing Diggs for the upcoming NFL season, as said by Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf. This is a shocking development, as the Patriots signed Romeo Doubs<\/a> to a long-term contract and continue to be in pursuit of Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> wide receiver A.J. Brown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re always looking for ways to improve the team, so not gonna say that anything\u2019s final at any position on the roster,\u201d Wolf said. \u201cAnd we wish [Stefon Diggs] the best. He was a tremendous player for us all season. I feel like wherever he goes next \u2013 if it\u2019s elsewhere, if he comes back here \u2013 he\u2019s gonna have a tremendous season.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Patriots clearly have Diggs in mind, as a potential return would be popular among the fans and players. The 32-year-old wide receiver was one of the leaders in the locker room and became the voice of the pre-game huddles. Diggs\u2019 connection with Drake Maye<\/a> was a significant part of New England\u2019s offense.<\/p>\n

Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards, and four touchdowns during the 2025-26 NFL regular season. The 32-year-old wide receiver\u2019s production dropped during the NFL playoffs; however, it was partially due to the offensive line\u2019s poor play. It rattled Maye and affected his play during the NFL playoffs.<\/p>\n

The Patriots will continue to pursue Brown, but if a deal isn\u2019t completed, they could turn their attention to Diggs.<\/p>\n
