The Jets have received two compensatory selections, giving them nine picks in the April draft to be held in Pittsburgh.

The Jets’ compensatories come in at the end of Round 4, 140th overall, and then at the end of Round 5, 179th overall.

The picks are the 18th and 19th compensatories awarded to the Jets since the system began with the 1994 draft. They haven’t gotten a lot of extra picks over the years, with their total 29th most among all NFL teams in that span. In 2024, however, the Jets received three “comps,” giving them seven in the past three drafts.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula. Clubs that suffer a net loss of CFAs during the prior free agent signing period are eligible to receive a corresponding number of compensatory selections.

The Jets’ two high CFAs were awarded after considering the four unrestricted free agents they signed last year — QB Justin Fields, C Josh Myers, CB Brandon Stephens and S Andre Cisco — against the seven UFAs that they lost — S Ashtyn Davis, CB Brandin Echols, DL Javon Kinlaw, T Morgan Moses, edge Haason Reddick, CB D.J. The official slots: They hold their own selections in Round 1 (second overall); Round 2 (33rd) and Round 4 (103rd). Through trades (most recently sending a sixth-rounder to Las Vegas for QB Geno Smith and a seventh-rounder), they also acquired four other selections — from Indianapolis in Round 1 (16th), Dallas in Round 2 (44th), and Dallas through the trade with Las Vegas (228th) and Buffalo (242nd) in Round 7.

With the two compensatories added in, the Jets have nine picks in the draft, which, including the compensatories, they can keep or trade.

The NFL’s calculations have been completed and the speculation was correct.
